I am mostly happy with the way things have evolved . They will never, in a cd form release it all ! So having the cds focus on HQ shows , in the best possible sound , in a fairly stable form ( the cd ). The fact that the lion's share of Dead shows can heard with a few clicks , is a miracle .
I say "mostly happy", because , the anthologies, and partial shows, remove them from the Archive . If it is a full, released show, great, go buy it . But the "Steppin' Out" set is an example of how to screw up access to a bunch of shows ! If they wanted to do a collection, they could have limited it to the April show, or just the last run in May . This also limits future releases from English shows ( "Steppin' out 2"?). So these shows end up, "Sitting here in limbo" .
I though , on the heels of the 1st RT release ( fall 79), they allowed "official downloads of 2 of the show the culled from (11/5-6/79), that they had a solution ; but they seem to ditched the downloads. Too bad .
I am glad to see the new RT is a 3 cd set ( 4 w bonus disc) . I hope this works . When the broke the 2 disc limit with the Dicks' Picks., it was a good thing .
I hope it works out for them, I think it is a fair deal . Meanwhile there are also years, and years o f music they most lilly never get to to listen to .
